Blood pressure measurements usually contain 2 numbers. The higher number is called systolic blood pressure and it represents the blood pressure in your arterial system caused by your heart as blood is being pumped out.

The second and lower number is called diastolic pressure and it represent portion of time when your heart muscle is resting and filling with blood.
