Osteoporosis usually caused by thinning bone tissue & degeneration over some time. Fosamax and Actonel are both bisphosphonates, this is class of drugs that prevent bone resorption and also can increase BMD - bone mineral density in someone with osteoporosis.

There are a some differences between Fosamax and Actonel.

Usual side effects of Actonel including hypertension - high blood pressure, diarrhea and bladder infections.

Usual side effects of Fosamax including jaw numbness, joint pain, swelling in the hands.

Both that drugs can cause heartburn, back pain, a worsening of acid reflux, along with dizziness, gas & abdominal pains.
